Welcome to Big Bear! My family first purchased what we refer to as “the upper cabin” in the 1940’s. We made the trek up here from our home base near Los Angeles when I was a child many, many times. We continued coming up to the cabin for years. It was a lot like camping, because there were no frills, just the basics. But our family loved it!
In later years we decided to give the upper cabin some indoor amenities, like a new kitchen and bath, and the “A” frame on the exterior was added. Many a childhood memory was made here, for me, my kids, sisters, nieces, nephews and now grandchildren.
In 2017 we were fortunate enough to purchase the property next door. It had originally been owned by another family member of the owner of the upper cabin. We now call this “the lower cabin,” because it sits slightly lower on the hill that makes up our property. We did a complete renovation of the interior, adding granite countertops in the kitchen and bath, and adding many built-in cabinets for storage. The dirt driveway was finally paved, and a few parking spaces made for guests.
We still use these cabins as a family retreat. Recently, we opened our doors to others who enjoy the mountains, the outdoors, and a cup of hot chocolate in front of a pot belly stove!
